Day 1: Arrival in Kilimanjaro Airport

Monday, August 21

Overview

Your international flight arrives into Kilimanjaro International Airport where you’ll be collected and transferred to Kia Lodge, your “door to Tanzania.” Dinner is not included on this evening, but there are plenty of options available at the Kia Lodge.

Accommodation

The Kia Lodge is situated on a secluded hill in the heart of beautiful savannah scenery that is so typical for East Africa. Guests can admire the vast views of the African plains and of course the grand Kilimanjaro Mountain that shows her snowy top mostly in the morning and at sundown.

Days 2-4: Tarangire National Park

Tuesday, August 22 - Thursday, August 24

Overview

After the Serengeti, Tarangire has the greatest concentration of wildlife in Tanzania. In the dry season (from June to October) the Tarangire River has shrivelled to a shadow of its wet season self but it is choked with wildlife as it is the only source of water for thousands of animals. Herds of up to 300 elephants scratch the dry river bed for underground streams, while migratory wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala, gazelle, hartebeest and eland crowd the shrinking lagoons – a smorgasbord for predators. The swamps, tinged green year round, are the focus for 550 bird varieties, the most breeding species in one habitat anywhere in the world.

On Day 2 you will meet up with your Asilia driver-guides and your traveling companions at a group breakfast before you begin your safari adventure from Kilimanjaro to Tarangire National Park, with a game drive included enroute to camp. A packed lunch will be provided to you, which you can enjoy during your drive.

After arriving at camp and settling into your tent, you’ll enjoy your first game drive of the park.

Adventure Activities

Game drives -  With a reputation for fantastic guiding, Oliver's game drives take you to the heart of the action every time, twice daily in the cooler mornings and evenings.
Night drives -  After dinner a night game drive is possible for up to 6 persons (half the group each night) with the opportunity to see some of Tanzania's famous 'nightlife', with unforgettable night drives permitted within Tarangire National Park.
Walking safari -  The privilege of walking in these natural areas gives you an exhilarating feeling of adventure. Although you will usually get close to large mammals such as elephant, giraffe, buffalo or even lion, walking safaris are very safe. The experienced guides of Oliver's Camp and an armed national park ranger will accompany you on every walk.

Accommodation

Discover Africa, just as it should be. Oliver's Camp – in the remote southern reaches of Tarangire National Park – has just 10 beautifully appointed safari tents in a spectacular location close to the game-dense Silale Swamps and overlooking a flood plain of the Minyonyo Pools.

Oliver's was inspired by the trailblazing camps that pioneered the early days of safari. It gives you direct access to the dense concentration of wildlife you will find year-round in this remote region, as well as the chance to enjoy walking safaris and fly camping.

Days 4-6: Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Thursday, August 24 - Saturday, August 26

Overview

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that takes its name from the Ngorongoro Crater, the world's largest inactive, intact and unfilled volcanic caldera, formed two to three million years ago. Approximately 25 000 large animals live in the natural enclosure formed by the 300km² crater, while the greater conservancy surroundings are home to wildebeest and zebra migratory movement in the wet season. Within the crater rim a daily wildlife drama is played out as large herds of zebra and wildebeest graze nearby lions, leopards, elephants and black rhinos.

You will rise early on the morning of Day and make your way to the Ngorongoro Crater where you will enjoy a full day game drive. A packed lunch will be provided for you for lunch. You will stop in a shady spot under the trees, maximising your time in this unforgettable landscape.
